Yes, that's right. A movie. I don't know, what the hell do you people think? I just kept laughing, but hey, maybe it could work. Here's a blurb about it.
"Director, cast, release date, and budget are all undetermined as of yet, but the paper quotes Blizzard CEO Paul Sams as saying that the goal is to make "one of the best films in the world," a World of Warcraft pic that will appeal to gamers and non-gamers alike. He said Legendary Pictures management was keenly attuned to what Blizzard wanted out of a World of Warcraft film. Legendary's first film was Batman Begins. Other projects being brought to the big screen by Legendary Pictures include Superman Returns, The Ant Bully, Where the Wild Things Are, and Frank Miller's 300."
Figured I'd put it over here, 'cause it's only been announced. I'm curious, could it work? What job should be the hero? Is there an overarching story? Tell me all you think...

It's too open ended to guess what the plot would be from the title WoW. It's like the movie DnD, except you aren't alienating the movie with the title DnD. Never saw the flick but I'm pretty sure it was just a random adventure movie.
One thing I did learn while working with people at Safeco, that play WoW a lot, is that there is a lot of depth to the history of the world, races, and what not that they could use in the movie. It's one of the reasons why WoW works so well with RP-servers.
I'm not intrigued by the thought of a WoW movie but it could end up being decent. I doubt it will end up as well as they'd hope though.

Well, the DnD movie did suck, but it was at least entertaining for all the wrong reasons. As to the Warcraft movie, Blizzard has always had a knack for coming up with cool set-ups for their games, but they have also had a considerable amount of freedom, which I doubt they will get with a studio. Also, there is the possibility that they might get saddled with Uwe "House of the Dead/Alone in the Dark/BloodRayne" Boll, which we all know is the kiss of death for anything involving films, video game-related or otherwise. At any rate, it is too soon to tell. While there is the potential to make a pretty cool movie set in the Warcraft universe, there is also the potential for an insanely crappy movie set in the Warcraft universe. Granted, I'll take insanely crappy over mediocre any day, but still, this could come back around to bite them in the ass.

Possible plots could be the forging of a definitive and lasting peace between the Horde (orcs, tauren, undead, blood elves, trolls) and the Alliance (humans, night elves, dwarves, gnomes, unknown). The thing is that this story could be told from any number of perspectives. It would not be a stretch to have an orc as the main hero, with a human paladin as the main antagonist/villain. The class of the main hero would be largely dependent on the overall structure of the story, and the perspective adopted.

nothing but a bunch of glaring going on to you Byran. You and your game bouncing,
*girly voice* "Oh I get bored of games too quickly to committ to anything. I guess I'll cancel my WOW account... oh wait I'll re-activate it... la la la"
YEAH! Final Fantasy ftw!

Ummm...Sorry guys, but I'm with Bryan on this one. It's class. As a pencil-and-paper guy, I have to say that it's always class. Class describes who you are. A job is just what you do to pay the rent.

i guess i'd better weigh in on this one. What I'm hoping for is that blizz goes for using 'live actoin' to mean that they use motion capture to get some of the movments for their kickass CG. Check out the WOW intro movie and you'll know what i mean. the cinematic cutscenes from all their games are usually exceptional for their time.... i'm crossing my fingers that the touch carries over to the big-screen...

Motion capture would be cool, it seems to be the best of both worlds. It's just been announced, so I guess that we will see how it goes.
I'm always a fan of cut scenes myself, unless they are in DBZ where Jordan is about to get the hurt on me and I've got the rumble pack.

Regarding doing it in CG, the benefit would be the ability to faithfully capture the distinctive aesthetic associated with all the Warcraft games.
