so, Will, are there any other comics out there that we should be reading so we can act like we are apart of the crowd that's been waiting 10 years for it to be turned into a crazy movie... or perhaps just enjoy a fine story with fancy art.

New comics to film to watch out for: First of all, we'll start with the obvious that everybody and their mom should probably know about: X3: Last Stand. Yeah, it's the X-Men, with a new director of dubious repute (Brett Ratner) at the helm.
Superman Returns: Brian Singer's post-X-men project. Kevin Spacey is Lex Luthor, and newcomer Brandon Routh is the Man of Steel.
Okay, now that we have that out of the way, here's some other stuff:
30 Days of Night: Basic plot is vampires attack the town of Barrow, Alaska in the middle of winter, where it night lasts, as the title suggests, 30 days. The town sherrif and his wife attempt to stem the tide of undead sweeping the frozen town. David Slade is set to direct, and it is purported to be ready by October of 2007.
Ghost Rider: Nicholas Cage stars as Johnny Blaze, a mortal possessed by the Spirit of Vengeance, who rides around on his demonic motorcycle generally raising hell. Slated to open February of 2007.
The Watchmen: Okay, so this probably is relegated to development hell, but there have been talks of bringing this to the screen for some time now under the direction of David Hayter. However, the production company has gone bankrupt, and most of the roles in the adaptation of Alan Moore's seminal re-imagination of the superhero genre are uncast, so don't expect too much. Plus, with the exception of V for Vendetta, movies based on Moore's work have been uninspiring at best, and downright aweful at worst.
Spider-Man 3: Sam Raimi's latest edition in the successful franchise is still in production, though plot details are scarce. We know for certain that Sandman (not Morpheus, but the guy who's made of sand) will be in the movie, and it is expected that Harry Osborne will make the final transformation into the Hobgoblin. The thing that everybody is talking about, however, is the rumored presence of Venom. However, despite the circulation of images depicting a black spidey suit and lame hints from some of the actors, Raimi has indicated that he finds Venom to be a boring character. Is this all just clever misdirection, or a poorly-kept secret? Who knows. We'll find out in May of 2007.
Wonder Woman: Browncoats and slayers, get ready for Joss Whedon's next effort, a film adaptation of Wonder Woman. No other details are forthcoming just yet.
Iron Man: It's on the way, though no director has been selected just yet.
Anyway, those are the confirmed ones right now. Meanwhile, Marvel has granted film rights to many of its smaller titles, such as Namor: The Sub-Mariner, Deathlok the Cyborg, Black Panther, Silver Surfer, and there has been talk of a Deadpool movie starring Ryan "Van Wilder" Reynolds. Reynolds has also been linked to a big-screen adaptation of DC's Flash. At any rate, that's a good start. If some of us who have access to the DGA *cough*Sarah*cough* could find out more, that would be great.

Just so you can all see the rumored "venom" suit. I personally think it's just a black-and-white pic of spiderman, but that's just me.

I don't know how you all feel, but Harry Osborne being the Hobgoblin is frickin' retarted, I don't care what "Ultimate Spiderman" says, it's stupid. The movie was based on the original comics and that's where it should stay, not this alternate story crap, yeah way to jump realities. Also, the sandman(incredulous)? wtf, the Green Goblin was cool only for the reason that he was a main nemesis in the original comics, and he was played by Willem Dafoe, and Dr. Octopus, only cool because of that train scene and it was Alfred Molina, the fucking sandman? come on! If they wanted an interesting story line it would be the Venom progression, not more psudo super villians. They'd show Peter getting the Symbiot suit and see it play tricks on him and try to make him do evil things, then he'd get rid of it and Brock would find it yadda yadda yadda, that's a good story, you gotta get the mental game in there too, not just the "wah, I'll hurt Mary Jane if I get close to her" Come on black suit! I hope Peter get the Symbiot and uses it to strangle the sandman and hobgoblin to death, the get rid of it and has to fight venom.

Actually, Harry Osborne as Hobgoblin was also in the original comics. Sorry to burst your bubble there. My guess is that Sandman will basically just be a heavy, while the real villain waits in the wings, probably Harry. If Venom is to play a role in the film, I am betting that it will be as a result of experiments that Harry and Oscorp have been conducting in an effort to create a sort of "anti-Spiderman." Spidey gets a hold of it, and it bonds to him, but makes him a little crazy. Spidey manages to ditch the suit, and it finds its way into the hands of Eddie Brock, who has a grudge against Peter Parker and Spiderman, and there we go. Sandman will most likely be hired by Harry as a heavy to take care of the more...undesirable aspects of the work.

Sandman is a super-powered criminal who turns into sand. Though generally on the wrong side of the law, Sandman is not entirely unsympathetic, as he turned to a life of crime to pay for an operation for his ill daughter. One of Spidey's rogue's gallery, not Neil Gaiman's version.

Okay, new information just out (not spiderman related): Director Peter Segal (The Longest Yard) has been tapped by Warner Brothers to direct Shazam, aka Captain Marvel, based on the DC hero of the same name. Not really much of a Captain Marvel fan, myself, but I'll probably see the movie.

More comic-to-film news: CHUD has news up on the cinematic adaptation of Y: The Last Man by Brian K. Vaughan. If you aren't reading this book, you should be. Basic plot is: all males on the planet die in a mysterious plague, with the exception of Yorick Brown and his helper monkey, Ampersand. As the last man on a planet of women, Yorick attempts to discover why he survived, re-unite with his girlfriend in Australia, and, barring that, finally show the world that English majors can get laid, too. New comic to movie news: Dark Horse's RIPD (Rest In Peace Department) is slated to be directed by David Dobkin ( Shanghai Noon, The Wedding Crashers). This is a comic with which I am not especially familiar, though the premise (zombies meets NY:PD Blue) sounds interesting to me. Link: filmforce.ign.com/articles/701/701124p1.html.

In my ongoing charge to bring information on every comic-to-film adaptation, no matter how obscure, I bring you the latest: Sgt. Rock, a WWII DC character, will be adapted by John Cox for the big screen. I'm not terribly familiar with Sgt. Rock, and quite frankly, I've seen lots of WWII movies, so I will be curious as to what will set this one apart from the others.

Jon Favreau has been tapped by Marvel to direct the upcoming Iron Man movie. In other news, Zak Penn has been chosen to write the sequel to The Incredible Hulk, the villain for which is slated to be the Abomination. I'm excited for one of these movies [hint: the title doesn't rhyme with "bulk."]. More news as information surfaces.

Apparently, there is talk of making a Magneto movie, which will tell the story of how Magneto and Professor X and eventually fell out. Supposedly, they will be using a digital age-reversal technique to allow Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart to both reprise their respective roles. I have the feeling that this could be either incredibly cool if done right, or just a lame attempt to cash in on the franchise if done wrong.

More news on Iron Man: Director John Favreau has stated that he intends to cast an unknown in the role of Tony Stark/Iron Man. I think that there is some wisdom in this choice, as it frees up a significant portion of the film's budget, and it also frees the audiences of any preconceptions about the character based upon the actor (Hey, that's Van Wilder!). Currently, the story will center around the creation of the Iron Man armor and the political machinations within Stark's company.

'ya know what my movie needs? It needs a Magneto! Only with Dwight's voice from Chasing Amy' -.- however, if it's done right, I agree it would be sweet.
