Just curious if you got your new 2 gig of ram in your box yet. any differences so far? i'm thinking of upgrading from 2x512 to something bigger... but wasn't sure if it was going to be worthwhile.
just defragged the raid array though- so maybe that'll help quash the upgrade fever..

well, for the most part it doesn't seem that noticable, but I think that's because you only notice things with ram when you don't have enough. In battlefield 2 every once in a while it would halt for about 2-3 seconds, when there was alot going on, and of course I would come out of my freeze frame and be dead, because I just sat there for those precious seconds. So, as I don't notice a huge difference it certainly helps, and I've been playing battle for middle earth 2 recently, and haven't had any problems, well with ram issues anyway(sometimes it will just close in the middle of the game, lame and weird). But yeah, it's kind of nice. Oh, and ps, if you are planning on upgrading, remember windows(32bit) doesn't support more than 2.5 gigs, or maybe 2.75, because that showed up on my ram count one time....but not anymore so that's gay.
also, I've been thinking of getting another media pc together for the basement, check out this shopping list
ASUS A8N-VM CSM Socket 939 NVIDIA GeForce 6150 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard Antec PERFORMANCE TX TX1050B Case 500W ATX12V v2.0 Power Supply Western Digital Raptor WD740GD 74GB 10,000 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive 3 - Western Digital Caviar SE WD3200JD 320GB 7200 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 2000MHz HT Socket 939 Processor Model ADA3700BNBOX
I've already got another WD3200JD so I would get 4 in RAID 5, take 1gig ram from my gaming box, swap it's 80 gig system drive with the raptor, and swap my new 3700+ in for my 3200+, and it's got integrated video(nvidia 6150 & 430 chipset [they say it can do hd output]) and 7.1 audio so I wouldn't need to get a graphics card, although due to dollars I might wait for the 3 320 gigers because that's almost $400, just get the rest of the computer and upgrade that later. oh, and I'm going to get a gig switch too, and a keyboard combo with a remote, we'll see how that goes.

that sounds like a very solid system- nice that you can swap in cpus too. is that 3700 going into your main rig? You figure it's worth opting for a dual core chip? i dont really remember the price difference tho- so maybe it's way expensive. i'd look it up but have to go to work now. boo........

it's just a single core, dual is still too expensive, lt'd be like $300 for a X2 3800+ which is basically two of my current 3200+ procs, (2.0 gHz 512Kb), so I'd rather not pay the extra $240 for the X2 4400+ which is the dual core 2.2 1Mb (dual 3700+), with no games written for dual core procs yet, no point. And yeah, totally putting the 3700 in the gaming box, don't need that much power to run raid 5 and dvds

sounds pretty good. the only thing that i'd be moderately concerned about would be the integrated stuff's abiltity to keep up. I'm sure it's come a long way since i've had integrated sound/video though - so i suppose you'll have to test it out. Too bad you don't have a crappy video card in your gaming box now so you could swap in a 7900GT or something that's the current card that i want... about $300 but near top performance.

yeah, don't give me any ideas, I looked at some benchmarks for the 6150 and it looks like it did alright, it can do 720p I guess, 6600gt can do 1080 of course, but.... I'm sure it will do ok, especially because it's going to mostly only be doing dvds and other video, although video games down there will be fun too, maybe some specialists we'll see.
